Doing something because it is difficult is a healthy way of ensuring that we grow, provided that the difficult thing helps us grow. Generally we don’t want to do things that are difficult. But sometimes a part of us likes to be challenged, and that part may push us to do things that are difficult just because they are difficult. That part of us which likes challenges this is a part that needs to be nourished, but it also needs to be complemented with the part of us that is wise. We need to do things not just because they are difficult but because they are valuable – because they change us for the better. And when we do things which are both difficult and uplifting that is when we can become positively transformed.
