Even if the world is materialistic and increasingly so, reality remains spiritual and eternally so. Sometimes when we see how materialistic the world is becoming, we may start thinking, “Is there any point in my practicing spiritual life?” The Bhagavad Gita, first of all, warns us in 2.69 that there will be different kinds of people in the world, two broad categories, materialists and spiritualists: and it accepts that the two will both be there – and it later says in 7.3 that the spiritualists will be in minority; and yet in this case, the reality is on the side of the minority. The ultimate reality of who we are is our spiritual identity, and our real life is at the spiritual level of relationship with God. By remembering that reality is on our side, we can persist in our spirituality, even if we find ourselves in an increasing minority.
