The absence of ability is excusable. The absence of will isn’t. Whenever something important is to be done, if someone is not able to do it because they just lack the ability to do it, then that’s understandable. However, if they are not doing it because they lack the will to do it, then that is neither understandable nor excusable. Why? Because if they don’t have the will to do something: then either they should not pretend that they support the cause, and they should not take up position and power in support of that cause – while not actually doing anything for the cause. The same dynamic applies in our own spiritual growth. When we get an opportunity for service and we refuse, honesty requires us to introspect, is it because of lack of ability or lack of will?
