Purification leads not to the inhibition of our desires, but to the integration of our desires within a higher purpose of service. When we try to purify ourselves, we may think, “Will I have to suppress my desires? Will I have to always hold them down and inhibit myself?” No! When we purify ourselves, we become aligned with a higher purpose, understanding that we are parts of God and that He has a role for us to do, a mission to fulfill, a contribution to make. And within that higher purpose of service, we can integrate our various desires appropriately, knowing which desires are to be accepted and which desires are to be cast aside for the service that we are meant to do.
