Success is not just about beating the odds individually, but also about changing the odds collectively. When we hear the story of someone who rose from extremely difficult situations and attained some remarkable success, that’s inspiring. We may want to learn, “How did this person beat the odds?”. It’s good to look at such stories. But what’s also important is to recognize that not everybody can be expected to be able to beat the odds similarly. We also need to look at society and see what can be done to change the odds so that everybody can rise higher much more easily. And the really successful people don’t just take pride in having beaten the odds. They work to change the odds so that others can also succeed.
