Bhagavad Gita 12.14
santuṣṭaḥ satataṁ yogī
yatātmā dṛḍha-niścayaḥ
mayy arpita-mano-buddhir
yo mad-bhaktaḥ sa me priyaḥ
Ever content, steady in soul,
Firm in resolve, with senses whole;
Dedicated to me with mind and intelligence,
Dear to me is such a devotee, in transcendence.
My dear Lord, the world gives me countless reasons to feel dissatisfied, and my mind turns those reasons into justifications to complain and to keep complaining.
O merciful Lord, help me to escape this cage of complaining by transforming my vision of the world. Instead of presuming that it exists for my pleasure and should rearrange itself according to my passing tastes, guide me to see that it exists for your purpose and ultimately for your pleasure. And in simply existing, it offers me endless opportunities to explore and experience. All I need is the curiosity to look and to learn. From the beauty of the night sky to the fragrance of the earth after fresh rain, everything can awaken my curiosity.
O all-pervading Lord, lead me to see your grace not only in nature’s marvels but also in humanity’s wonders. The accomplishments of my fellow human beings—artistic or technological—point to your divinity, for it is you who grant the gift of extraordinary creativity.
O all-attractive Lord, you have filled the world with endless objects of experience and filled my mind with interests that draw me toward them. Bless me so that I can unite my curiosity to know with gratitude for all that invites me into discovery. Thus, may I firmly grasp the key of grateful curiosity. Holding this key, help me break free from the cramped world of my mind’s petty complaints and live in the vast world of your mystery and majesty.
