We may think of fanatics to be scary-looking monstrous people who self-righteously destroy anyone who opposes them. While that is indeed fanaticism in activity there is also fanaticism in mentality. And that may be something which may be present even in our own hearts, although we may never be fanatical in our activity in terms of being violent or destructive.

What is this fanatical mentality? It is the belief that what works for me is the only thing that can ever work for anyone else. And therefore if somebody is doing something different from what I am doing, they are wrong — not just wrong but wrong-headed. They are evil for doing that wrong thing; they are misleading others and therefore they need to be destroyed.

Might we be fanatics?
