Just as we wouldn’t choose to live with someone with a bad attitude, why should we tolerate our own bad attitude? Imagine living with a person who is constantly complaining, nagging, and tormenting. We would try to distance ourselves from that person as quickly as possible. What if such a person were not living outside us but inside us? That is essentially our situation when we live with our own bad attitude.

Fortunately, by studying wisdom texts like the Bhagavad Gita, we can understand that we are distinct from our mind. We don’t have to succumb to our mind, especially when it exhibits a bad attitude. Thus, we can protect ourselves by creating distance from our mind when it manifests a negative disposition.
