To help others, focus on their potentials, not their problems. Whenever we are in a position of guiding others, it is natural that we will see the many ways in which they are falling short, being deficient, or appearing incompetent or uncommitted. However, if we fixate only on those things and constantly point out their faults, they will become discouraged in trying to improve and may even become alienated from us.

Instead, if we first focus on their potentials, recognizing that they are at their core spiritual beings, precious parts of God, and that they are gifted by God in various ways, then that positivity will manifest in our words, actions, and attitudes. This approach will encourage them to strive and connect with us as their well-wishers.
