Bhagavad Gita 10.8
ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo
mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate
iti matvā bhajante māṁ
budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ
I am source of all that exists,
From me and by me, all motion subsists;
Knowing me thus, the wise with full conviction
Worship me with all their heart’s emotion.
My dear Lord, It is the nature of the human mind to seek explanations, to make sense of things. Every explanation works within a causal framework. Science explains the behavior of objects using laws such as the laws of motion. All such laws and explanations arise from and rest in you, the source of everything.
O basis of all meaning, let me approach you not merely from the mystical pathway that attributes to you things that are not explainable by human reason. While that may be one pathway to faith, a far more intellectually rational and robust pathway is to see you as the explanation for all explanations and indeed the explanation for all explainability—the remarkable twin facts that I can make sense of some things and that things do make sense to some degree. All this is because you who are the source and sustainer of all sense.
O supreme enlightener, Let this expansive and inclusive vision of you become the conviction of my head. And may it inspire the transformation of my heart whereby I may appreciate and approach you as the source and sustainer of ultimately the strongest force in the relational universe: love. Let me appreciate that all love I may experience in this world comes ultimately from you, and all my love that may be directed towards various objects in this world will find its culmination in you.
O supreme shelter of everything, May my head’s need for logic, and my heart’s need for love all be directed toward you and find the highest fulfillment in you.
