Bhagavad Gita 10.10
teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ
bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam
dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ
yena mām upayānti te
Those who stay always within a divine connection,
Serving me with a heart filled with affection,
I grant them the dynamic intelligence,
To come to me, the supreme transcendence.
My dear Lord, you are always ready to bless me with the sound intelligence necessary for making good decisions—those that help me do both: navigate the immediate constructively and gravitate toward you, my life’s ultimate purpose.
O supreme guide, help me perceive that the choices I confront are somehow within the ambit of your plan. Let me see beyond the specifics of the choices to the universal principle that all decisions ultimately boil down to one central decision—whether I want to come closer to you or further away from you. Let me not become so fixated on the immediate that I become overwhelmed by what is at stake and become blinded to your ultimate purpose. Let me not become so caught in the ultimate that I become negligent toward the responsibility and opportunity of the moment and end up making choices that are careless or counterproductive.
O all-pervading Lord, help me harmonize my awareness of the ultimate and my alertness to the immediate—by remembering that you are not just a passive point waiting as my final destination, but the omnipotent person within me, orchestrating the situations of my life so that I can use all the gifts you have given me: both the specific abilities needed for circumstance, and the innermost longing for you that resides at the core of my being.
O Lord of my heart, let every situation draw me toward you.
