Bhagavad Gita 15.12

yad āditya-gataṁ tejo

jagad bhāsayate ’khilam

yac candramasi yac cāgnau

tat tejo viddhi māmakam

The light that shines within the sun,

Illuminating everyone;

The glow within the moon and fire—

Know that radiance as my power.

My dear Lord, the first step toward living deeply, rather than superficially, is recognizing the many profound arrangements that make my existence possible, instead of becoming absorbed in the many superficial enjoyments that I pursue as desirable or even irresistible.

O merciful Lord, you reveal how you maintain me at a cosmic level through the sun. By the energy it provides, you sustain the very ecosystem that sustains me. Even if I want to live for superficial pleasures, even if I seek only material enjoyment, even if I have no interest in appreciating your benevolence or acknowledging your presence, the undeniable fact remains that I cannot do anything—not even take a breath, nor even have the air available to breathe—unless you make countless cosmic arrangements for my existence.

O supreme guide, prompt me to take micro-pauses whenever I am out in the sun to remind myself of this unfailing benevolence. Even when I live mostly on secondary sources of energy, such as electricity, every time I operate a power switch, grant me the contemplative clarity to appreciate that this technological marvel, which brings so much convenience and comfort into my life, would be impossible without the divine marvel of your loving arrangement.

O all-pervading Lord, may every experience of energy—whether natural or recycled—give my head and heart at least a tiny dose of energy to turn toward you, whether gently, gravely, or gratefully.

15.12 The splendor of the sun, which dissipates the darkness of this whole world, comes from Me. And the splendor of the moon and the splendor of fire are also from Me.
