Bhagavad Gita 15.19
yo mām evam asammūḍho
jānāti puruṣottamam
sa sarva-vid bhajati māṁ
sarva-bhāvena bhārata
One who knows me as supreme,
Free from delusion, doubt and dream;
Knowing thus, with vision clear,
Serves me wholly, heart sincere.
My dear Lord, I am your part, and just as you have autonomy, so do I. Unfortunately, in asserting my autonomy, I often neglect or reject the other part of my nature that I get from you as your part: the need to bond and belong.
O beloved Lord, help me learn from your example to harmonize both my need for autonomy and my need for bonding. Though you are completely self-sufficient, you still seek to love and be loved. Thus you choose to reside and rejoice in an imperishable abode, where endless love flourishes and nourishes the heart of every soul who autonomously chooses to bond with you.
O all-wise Lord, due to my own delusions, doubts, and dreams—all distorted forms of perception—I think of the bond with you as a chain that will restrict my freedom and deprive me of happiness. Being thus misled, I become rootless and am thus swept away by the world’s stormy winds of desire and fear.
O supremely merciful Lord, please help me realize that the bond with you never suffocates, but always stabilizes. The more I choose to love you, the more I get an anchor against the world’s storms. And with time, that same anchor miraculously transforms into a launching pad which catapults me toward both the highest development of my potentials and the greatest enrichment of my heart.
