Bhagavad Gita 4.38

na hi jñānena sadṛśaṁ

pavitram iha vidyate

tat svayaṁ yoga-saṁsiddhaḥ

kālenātmani vindati

“Nothing is as pure as wisdom’s light,

It cleanses the soul and clears the sight.

Through yoga perfected, in time one sees,

Truth revealed and relished with ease.”

My dear Lord, the ultimate potency of wisdom is not just in acting as a fire destroying my ignorance or as a boat delivering me across the ocean of material existence. Ultimately, wisdom is meant to bring me in touch with the joy that resides within me at my core.

After all, my Lord, it is you who are present forever in my innermost core. And wisdom culminates in recognizing your inner presence and your universal benevolence. Bless me, O Lord, to diligently practice the yoga that makes wisdom realized.

The light of wisdom, my Lord, reveals everything—not in the sense of making me omniscient; but in the sense of helping me see how you, my omnipotent and omniscient Lord, are always orchestrating my life for my ultimate welfare.

Please, O Lord, until I reach that state—until the light of wisdom reveals your inexhaustible love—guide me through the dark night of the soul. Help me, my Lord, to hold on to you even in those moments of trial when I do not see or feel that you are holding on to me.

Please, O Lord, help me understand that staying true to my faith during such moments will bring me closer to you, faster. Let that truth inspire me to hold fast to you, my Lord, always.

04.38 In this world, there is nothing so sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge. Such knowledge is the mature fruit of all mysticism. And one who has become accomplished in the practice of devotional service enjoys this knowledge within himself in due course of time.
