Bhagavad Gita 11.4
manyase yadi tac chakyam
mayā draṣṭum iti prabho
yogeśvara tato me tvaṁ
darśayātmānam avyayam
O master of yoga, if it may be,
May I behold this form of Thee—
That spans all time, all space, all grace,
Yet stands revealed in this time and place.
My dear Lord, help me develop the humility to see you, even when I don’t have the purity to see you.
O Lord, if you are everywhere—indeed, your wonderful presence pervades all of my existence—you are all around me and you are inside me. Indeed, nothing and no one can exist without your sustaining presence.
O Lord, bless me so that I can become more aware of your presence and proximity. Because of my misguided intelligence and mischievous mind, I have for so long valued so many things other than you—more than you. Because of the misdirection of consciousness caused by such inner impurities, I can no longer see you. I cannot see you presently.
Yet, O Lord, although developing purity will take time, it is always possible to develop humility—at least in terms of intellectual understanding and practical conduct, even if it does not become a deep-rooted disposition of the heart immediately.
With such humility, when I understand that I am not entitled to the fulfillment of my desires, I will feel more humbled and ready to see that reality has not reduced, whether my desires are fulfilled or not. And thus, I will be able to see all of reality permeated with—and indeed pervaded by—your many manifestations.
Help me, O Lord, to realize and relish your divine manifestations in the form of the attractive things outside me that can act as pointers to you, and in the form of the thoughts and practices inside me that remind me of your glory.
