Bhagavad Gita 11.38

tvam akṣaraṁ paramaṁ veditavyaṁ

tvam asya viśvasya paraṁ nidhānam

tvam avyayaḥ śāśvata-dharma-goptā

sanātanas tvaṁ puruṣo mato me

 

You are the Imperishable to know,

The highest refuge where all go;

Guardian of dharma, ancient, sure,

The Eternal Person, ever pure.

 

My dear Lord, understanding your supreme position is not meant to remain a mere exercise in theological theory. It is meant to deepen, broaden, and enliven my vision of my place and purpose in the universe.

O supremely deep divinity, when my vision is deepened by understanding your position, I can see beyond surface appearances. Rather than being allured by things that promise pleasure or alarmed by things that threaten trouble, I can learn to perceive your pervasive presence in all things, people, and events.

O all-pervading Lord, when my vision is broadened by understanding your position, I stop seeing the events of my life solely in terms of their immediate causes and effects. Instead, I start seeing them in terms of your far-reaching plan that extends over lifetimes. Indeed, the intent of your master plan spans eternity, for you mold me to learn to love the eternal—ultimately, you yourself.

O Lord of all experiences and emotions, when my vision is enlivened by understanding your position, I no longer have to live for the few moments that promise sensual pleasure and for the dopamine hits that such pleasure brings. Instead, life gains rich meaning when I learn to see every moment as an opportunity to align with your purpose. Indeed, you manifest as time itself, giving me in every moment the chance to draw closer to your timeless manifestation as the eternal Lord of love.

11.38 You are the original Personality of Godhead, the oldest, the ultimate sanctuary of this manifested cosmic world. You are the knower of everything, and You are all that is knowable. You are the supreme refuge, above the material modes. O limitless form! This whole cosmic manifestation is pervaded by You!
