Bhagavad Gita 10.16

vaktum arhasy aśeṣeṇa

divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ

yābhir vibhūtibhir lokān

imāṁs tvaṁ vyāpya tiṣṭhasi

 

Speak of glories, all and whole,

By which you pervade each soul;

Tell the signs that fill this sphere,

How you stand in all that’s here.

 

My dear Lord, you want me to have a rich life in which I can explore and experience the world in both its outer and inner dimensions.

O indwelling Lord, I am often caught in the temptations and distractions of the outer world and forget to even consider my inner world, let alone explore it. That is why turning to you often involves disciplines that recommend—even mandate—turning away from the outer world and shifting my vision inward through meditation. Only through such an inward turn can I experience authentic spiritual connection.

Still, O all-pervading Lord, you do not want that connection, developed through inner exploration, to become my permanent hideout; you want it to be a launching pad. Energized by connecting with you, you want me to act in the outer world in your service, using the abilities, interests, and resources you have given me. While I act thus, please help me to perceive your presence in the world of sense objects.

O all-attractive Lord, it is you who make all beautiful things beautiful by infusing them with a spark of your opulence. Please educate and elevate my vision so that I see such objects not as mundane sense objects, but as divine sense objects. Whenever they draw my attention, may they become pointers to you, never competitors with you.
