Bhagavad Gita 9.34
man-manā bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru
mām evaiṣyasi yuktvaivam
ātmānaṁ mat-parāyaṇaḥ
Fix your mind on me with devotion,
Worship me with humble submission,
Thus united, firm and free,
You will surely come to me.
My dear Lord, my constant movement from darkness to light is natural and necessary. In darkness I am blind—prone to hurting myself and hurting others. In light I can see and choose wisely, benefiting both myself and others.
O Lord of all light, what applies to physical light in the outer world applies even more to the metaphysical light in my inner world. My heart needs the light of love to make life in this demanding and distressing world bearable. Among all the lights of love, the light of your love shines brightest in the firmament of existence.
O supremely loving Lord, it is because of your love that I exist. Even when I don’t see your love, you still provide the means for my existence. But only when I see your love do I find meaning for my existence: only then do my actions in this fleeting domain acquire enduring significance. Disconnected from that love, everything I seek meaning through is lost at death, if not earlier. Without that light, I chase things that make me miserable and in the process also make others miserable.
O merciful Lord, bless me so that once I see the light of your love, I may intelligently choose to live in that light. Let it guide all my choices, drawing me to act for your pleasure and to come ever closer to you, both here and in the hereafter.
