Bhagavad Gita 10.1

śrī-bhagavān uvāca

bhūya eva mahā-bāho

śṛṇu me paramaṁ vacaḥ

yat te ’haṁ priyamāṇāya

vakṣyāmi hita-kāmyayā

Hear again my words of love and light,

Spoken, O dear one, for your soul’s delight;

Desiring your good, I now impart

Truths that can enrich every heart.

My dear Lord, when you share your message of love with me, you don’t just tell me what to do and leave me to struggle alone. Neither do you simply give feedback and then wait at the finish line leaving me struggling to reach you on my own. You walk with me through every step of the journey, encouraging me when I lose heart and empowering me when I lack the strength to continue.

O all-pervading Lord, your words reveal a remarkable truth about our relationship: you are not just my destination but also my companion. You are my destination in the sense that when my journey through this troubled and troubling world is finally completed, then I will fully realize you—your incomparable greatness and your inexhaustible sweetness—and be forever united with you in love. Yet you are also my companion, in the sense that you are always with me and within me. If I learn to tune my heart through bhakti, I can sense your presence right here right now, no matter how conditioned or distracted my consciousness may be.

O supreme guru, bless me to dive deep into your endlessly deep words so that I become inspired not only to pursue you as my life’s ultimate destination, but also to perceive you as my life’s unfailing companion.
