Bhagavad Gita 4.9

janma karma ca me divyam

evaṁ yo vetti tattvataḥ

tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma

naiti mām eti so ’rjuna

 

“One who knows my birth and deeds divine,

In truth, beyond just as a story or a sign,

Shall, leaving the body, be reborn no more,

But come to me, forever secure.”

 

My dear Lord, your purpose in coming to this world is far bigger than just to restore order. After all, in this mortal works, order inevitably gives way to disorder sooner or later. That is why you mercifully come again and again to restore order. But your purpose is not limited to simply doing again and again that which will be undone again and again. You come to attract us, so that we can be reunited with you for a life of everlasting love and joy in your personal, eternal abode. My dear Lord, I beg you, let me see you not just as the restorer of order, but as the recoverer of hearts. 

My Lord, if I see you primarily as the restorer of order, then I will be in constant insecurity whenever order seems to be disrupted. But if I see you as the recoverer of hearts, then I will be able to stay calm and gracefully accept whatever mysterious way you may be choosing to draw my heart towards you—whether through order or disorder. Bless me, my Lord, so that my vision rises above this world to be fixed on your beauty and glory, which remain unchanged whatever the changes in this world. Through outer order or disorder, may my heart remain fixed on you, ready to do whatever you order.

04.09 One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.
