Any extremist ideology is totalizing and demonizing. Totalizing means that it claims to have a total understanding of everything, that whatever it says is the final word on all of reality with no room for ambiguity or nuance. And demonizing means that any such extremist ideology claims that anyone who disagrees with its claims is not only wrong, but also wrong headed and wicked. And such a person should be not just condemned, but even destroyed. If we see either of these characteristics, that itself is bad enough about an ideology. If we see both that is terrible.
