Just because something is obvious to us doesn’t mean that it has to be obvious to everyone else. To use the word ‘obviously’ can come off as insulting when the things that are obvious to us may not be obvious to others. There are times when we wonder why some people become angry with us when we think that we haven’t spoken anything objectionable. It may be that our words are not objectionable, but the assumptions behind those words are what make our tone and manner objectionable. Rather than belittling people, for not understanding our concerns, we need to be evaluating whether we are communicating those concerns in a way that others can understand.
