Bad situations can explain bad decisions, but they don’t excuse bad decisions. Life sometimes puts even the best of us in bad situations. That means situations where we just don’t have any good options, where every choice that we do take seems to lead us to a terrible situation. Krishna is confronted by Arjuna with this predicament in Bhagavad-Gita 1.30 and yet Arjuna does not simply use this situation as justification for a bad decision. He doesn’t use that as an excuse. He explains what his situation is in and then he seeks guidance from Krishna. And thereby, the bad situation does not lead him to a bad decision.
