We are all prone to get bored of the repetitive: that’s why we want to watch new TV shows, new movies – we want to buy new clothes, eat new kinds of food, maybe hear new music, make new friends, even explore new relationships.

While this way of newness is natural, it is superficial: because the problem is the desires are the same old desires – desires for seeking material pleasure, desires for things that keep us away from who we are, spiritual beings. The Bhagavad-gītā tells us if we want something new in our life, we need to have new desires: desires for understanding the soul as we are and understanding the whole Krishna whose parts we are – that will bring unending newness in our life.

06.28 Thus the self-controlled yogī, constantly engaged in yoga practice, becomes free from all material contamination and achieves the highest stage of perfect happiness in transcendental loving service to the Lord.
