Fear sometimes feels like an inner enemy, beating us relentlessly with a stick. But here’s the twist— the stick used against us actually belongs to us.
That stick is our imagination. When fear controls it, our mind conjures countless horror scenarios of what could go wrong. But when we take back that stick, we can visualize what could go right.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna’s imagination first worked for his fears (1.42) and left him paralyzed— until Krishna helped him visualize positively (11.33).
We too can use our imagination to paint a vivid picture— of how wonderful success can be, and even before that, how meaningful progress can be. Whenever we start anything challenging— anything that triggers some fear in us— let’s first take time to create such a mental picture. Thereafter, let’s regularly make time to not just remember it but also re-enter it. By these two strategies, our dream becomes stronger than fear’s nightmare— and we power through our fear.
