The problem with distraction is that it leads to a frustrating non-presence in the present. The present moment is an opportunity for us to both experience life and act constructively to create a better future. But when we let our mind get distracted, we are not mentally present in our present. Because of that, we miss experiencing the joys of life as well as the opportunities that we have been given. That’s why the Gita states we need to focus on managing our mind better, as mentioned in Bhagavad-gita (6.36).
