Previous verse explains that when we understand that there is a doer beyond the modes or nature we can take shelter of Him and go beyond the modes.
Now Krishna describes further elements in it.
Bg 14.20
guṇān etān atītya trīn
dehī deha-samudbhavān
janma-mṛtyu-jarā-duḥkhair
vimukto ’mṛtam aśnute
Synonyms:
guṇān — qualities; etān — all these; atītya — transcending; trīn — three; dehī — the embodied; deha — the body; samudbhavān — produced of; janma — of birth; mṛtyu — death; jarā — and old age; duḥkhaiḥ — the distresses; vimuktaḥ — being freed from; amṛtam — nectar; aśnute — he enjoys.
Translation:
When the embodied being is able to transcend these three modes associated with the material body, he can become free from birth, death, old age and their distresses and can enjoy nectar even in this life.
guṇān etān, all these modes
atītya trīn, atītya means to go beyond
trīn is three
When one goes beyond the three modes
dehī deha-samudbhavān,
dehī, the person who is in the body
deha-samudbhavān, so that which is born in the body
janma-mṛtyu-jarā-duḥkhair
So these miseries are born with the body
dehī deha-samudbhavān
with body these miseries come
and
janma-mṛtyu-jarā-duḥkhair
the miseries of birth death and old age
vimukto ’mṛtam aśnute
One becomes liberated from them and one attains eternity.
So Krishna is telling here when one goes beyond the three modes one goes beyond the miseries like birth, death and old age that are born with the body and one attain liberation and immortality, ’mṛtam aśnute.
