Here Sri Krishna is explaining what is that which situates a person in yogārūḍhas stage

Bg 6.4

yadā hi nendriyārtheṣu

na karmasv anuṣajjate

sarva-saṅkalpa-sannyāsī

yogārūḍhas tadocyate

Word for word:

yadā — when; hi — certainly; na — not; indriya-artheṣu — in sense gratification; na — never; karmasu — in fruitive activities; anuṣajjate — one necessarily engages; sarva-saṅkalpa — of all material desires; sannyāsī — renouncer; yoga-ārūḍhaḥ — elevated in yoga; tadā — at that time; ucyate — is said to be.

Translation:

A person is said to be elevated in yoga when, having renounced all material desires, he neither acts for sense gratification nor engages in fruitive activities.

yogārūḍhas tadocyate -> ārūḍhas tadocyate– it is said, such a person is situated in yoga Three characters are described: yadā hi nendriyārtheṣu, indriya-artheṣu means one who is engaged in sense gratification. na karmasv anuṣajjate, one does not engage in fruitive activities which will eventually lead to sense gratification.

  1. So there is direct sense gratification, when we enjoy sense object; and
  2. the second type is we pursue fruitive activities which will in turn provide sense gratification.

But one situated in Yoga; not only gives up the above two types of activities, but also one gives up internally the desire for sense gratification. This is quite a serious stage of renunciation, sarva-saṅkalpa-sannyāsī. Person at such a state of consciousness is completely situated in yoga known as yogārūḍhas tadocyate.

So in 6.4: Sri Krishna is telling 3 characteristics of yogarudha

  • Engaging: 6.4a –naindriyartheshu, not engaging is sense gratification
  • Pursuing: 6.4b –nakarmasvanushajjate, not pursuing sense gratification
  • Desiring: 6.4c –sarvasankalpasannyasi, not desiring sense gratification
