We all have moments that keep replaying inside us – memories that feel unpleasant, unhealthy, even unbearable.
So, how can we let go of those memories?
By recognizing that life is filled with many kinds of moments: it is a mix of both adversity and opportunity.
Unfortunately, our mind often lets moments of adversity grab us and moments of opportunity slip by.
Thus, it acts as an enemy, as the Bhagavad Gita (6.6) cautions.
How can we hold on to moments of opportunity?
By seeing the present moment as an opportunity.
Even if we can’t do something externally significant in the present, we still have the opportunity to do something internally significant: to create a fresh impression in our mind.
How?
Just practice living in the present. That will train our mind to value the opportunity present in every present moment. Then it will no longer be idle and vulnerable to being captured by our past.
