We’ve all been too emotional at times or too detached at others.

The Bhagavad Gita (6.5) reminds us that we shouldn’t degrade ourselves with our mind, which is the seat of our emotions. In dealing with our mind, we can end up degraded in two ways: our emotions become too much, making us headless, or our emotions become too little, leaving us heartless. Think of the mind like a car: let emotions have a voice, but don’t give them the wheel. If you tend to be too emotional in some areas, set some guardrails by, say, requesting friends to warn you. If you tend to be too unemotional in other areas, tune into feelings by, say, talking with friends who have a better emotional radar. Let emotions whisper, but let wisdom lead. The closer you come to that elusive emotional balance, the more your life journey will become sweeter and smoother.
